What are chocolate mini eggs?

Chocolate mini eggs do what they say on the tin — they’re small, egg-shaped treats made from chocolate. They also usually have a sugar shell that offers a satisfying crunch.

Our take on chocolate mini eggs brings a real touch of luxury. With a centre of sumptuous milk chocolate praline that delivers moments of nutty beauty, these Speckled Eggs melt in the mouth. The crisp shells provide a satisfying contrast.

And as with all Hotel Chocolat products, you can enjoy each bite knowing that you’re getting a high cacao content and only natural ingredients. So whether you want a treat for yourself or something for the kids, look no further.

Because of their petite size, chocolate mini eggs are the perfect snack. When you fancy a moment of indulgence but don’t want anything too rich and decadent, reach for the Speckled Eggs.

Things to do with chocolate mini eggs

As well as snacking throughout the Easter holiday — trust us, they’re moreish — you can include chocolate mini eggs in a range of ways. Here are a few to try:

1. Make chocolate nests

Did you ever make chocolate crispy cakes as a child? Maybe your primary school had a tradition of mixing melted chocolate with crispy wheat cereal and moulding it to get that iconic ‘nest’ shape and texture. For a fun family activity, why not whip up a batch of these quick and easy cakes?

Wheat bran, cornflakes, and crispy rice puffs all make excellent chocolate nest material. All you need to do is melt your favourite chocolate — milk chocolate and dark chocolate are ideal, so go for whichever cacao percentage you like best.

Stir in your cereal — don’t worry if the pieces break, this all adds to the texture! Scoop spoonfuls of your chocolatey cereal mix into cake papers and let them set in the fridge.

Once set, you can top your nests with a few chocolate mini eggs for an adorable edible centrepiece.

2. Set up an Easter egg hunt

Chocolate mini eggs are an ideal treasure to hide for an Easter egg hunt. You can split a pack into fillable plastic eggs or pop them into party favour bags. Why not take a look at our guide on how to set up an Easter egg hunt for more details?

3. Decorate cakes and bakes

As well as topping chocolate nests, mini eggs make beautiful cake decorations. Whether you bake cupcakes or go for a show-stopping sponge to share with loved ones, mini eggs can add a touch of subtle vibrancy.

Our miniature eggs use natural colouring to lend a sunny yellow shade, and their speckled shells are inspired by real birds’ eggs.

This speckled egg Easter cake is covered with delectable buttercream icing and flecked with rich melted chocolate. A rustic clutch of speckled chocolate mini eggs complete the aesthetic. Guests are sure to appreciate this impressive creation. This recipe uses blue icing, but you could go for any pastel shade to evoke springtime joy.

Alternatively, for something a little more decadent, you could incorporate some of our tiddly eggs from the Easter Sleekster. From Raspberry Supermilk and Pistachi-oh! to Simnel Cake, this collection of chocolate mini eggs is an elegant twist on the classic. No crisp sugar shells here, but you can experience a heavenly range of elegant eggs. So why not give your Easter cakes a sophisticated edge?

Chocolate mini eggs also make delightful companions for traybakes, such as rich chocolate brownies.

4. Top milkshakes

Sometimes, the best desserts are drinkable. As well as being delicious, a mini egg milkshake looks lovely. It’s a fitting beverage for the Easter season.

To make a chocolate mini egg milkshake, you just need milk and vanilla ice cream of your choice (dairy or plant-based), a bag of Speckled Eggs, and some chocolate sauce.

Add 3 scoops of ice cream and 300ml of milk to a blender, along with a handful of mini eggs. Blitz it up until the mini eggs have broken into small pieces. You can add more liquid if you’d like your shake to be less thick.

Using a pestle and mortar (or a sandwich bag and rolling pin), crush a few more mini eggs, leaving sizable pieces. Drizzle chocolate sauce around the inside of your milkshake glass — don’t worry about making it neat!

Pour in your milkshake and top with the crushed mini eggs. If you have any whole ones left over, carefully balance them on top.

5. Make a Velvetised Mini Egg Martini

If you’re in the mood for a luxurious drink with a tipsy twist, this is the recipe for you. This mini egg martini recipe is based on Alex Webb’s Velvetised Chocolate Espresso Martini — a creamy, chocolatey cocktail with a coffee kick.

This time, we’re going to omit the espresso and add a bit of texture with crushed chocolate mini eggs.

Here’s how to make one:

What you’ll need

  • The Velvetiser
  • A cocktail shaker
  • A chilled martini glass
  • Pestle and mortar

Method

Add your vodka shot, hot chocolate flakes, and Velvetised Chocolate Cream to the Velvetiser and let it work its magic.

While you’re waiting, finely crush a handful of chocolate mini eggs using the pestle and mortar. Pour the pieces of mini egg into a dish with a teaspoon of hot chocolate flakes. Turn your martini glass upside down and twist the rim around in the chocolate mix so it picks up the flakes and mini egg pieces.

Once the Velvetiser has mixed your ingredients into a delectable creamy blend, pour it into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake to your heart’s content!

Pour your shaken cocktail into the prepared martini glass and top with a final dusting of the remaining crushed mini egg and hot chocolate flake mixture.

Sip and enjoy!
