Planet Pledge

Engaged Ethics

We have almost reached our goal of 100% reusable or recyclable packaging. Aiming for our own operations to be net zero by 2030 and our supply chain by 2040.

We care about our planet, and we want to leave it in a better state than we found it. To do this, we are working tirelessly to minimise our environmental impact.

We have almost reached our goal of 100% reusable or recyclable  or cutting ourenergy use, food waste and food miles, we’re always looking for better alternatives. As new materials and technologies come to light, we’ll upgrade our practices, to ensure we’re always doing our best to care for our planet.

Our aim is to hit Net Zero Carbon by 2030. It’s a tall order, but we’ll do everything in our power to achieve it.

Packaging

We’ve pushed ourselves to improve our existing sustainable packaging and made important progress in updating our range. We’re always reinventing our packaging as better, more environmentally friendly materials are developed, and reducing, reusing and recycling as much as possible. Our plastic trays are made from 30% recycled plastic in the UK’s first circular economy for plastic.

We have almost reached our goal of 100% reusable or recyclable packaging – and we’re working hard to get that up to 100% as soon as we can.

Food Waste

We’re constantly on the hunt for new and innovative ways to reduce and recycle waste. We use every part of our cacao harvest, blending the tangy pulp into our cocktails and crushing the shells of cacao beans to make invigorating body scrubs. We never throw away chocolates that are visually imperfect – enjoy them at a discount in our Ugly But Good bags!

Food Miles

Cacao can only grow in tropical climates up to 20° north and south of the equator, but we import all our beans through sea freight, which has the lowest carbon footprint of any form of transport.

All our chocolates are made in the UK and perfectly packaged into our own lorries by our expert team to ensure maximum capacity. To reduce the carbon footprint and food miles of our Hotel Chocolat cafés, we source everything except milk from our central distribution centre.
