Chocolate to take on your travels
4 Jun 2025
Imagine the decadence of indulging in your favourite cacao-rich chocolates at 30,000 feet. Grab your preferred Selector, and nothing can stop you from heading off on your travels with your favourite Hotel Chocolat treats tucked in your carry-on.
While airline regulations might not stop you from revelling in your favourite Pink Champagne Chocolate Truffles or nibbling on creamy Supermilk Baton, how do you ensure your chocolate travels in perfect condition? And what are the best options for indulgent travel treats for your style of travel?

Why travel shouldn’t mean missing your favourite treats
You could be on a city break to Brussels for its divine Belgian chocolates, or abandoning yourself to the pleasures of the Rabot Hotel in Saint Lucia. Chocolate tourism is skyrocketing in popularity, which is hardly surprising — it’s a chance to learn the history and origins of cacao, and for you to see how it’s made from bean to bar.
The truth is, any trip is better with chocolate. Imagine yourself removing the packing of your favourite Seriously Dark Fix or Exuberantly Fruity Sleekster as you soar away to your next adventure. You may have your Summer Cocktails to Chill at the perfect temperature in your cooler backpack. Or perhaps you empty the contents of your Mini Selector into the cupholder and hit the air con as you head into the blue yonder.
The point is, you needn’t miss out on your favourite treats when you’re on your travels. Nibbling some dark cacao as a pick-me-up, or yielding to the temptation of an Everything Sleekster as you lounge poolside, is the perfect way to add some ooh-la-la to your next adventure.
Tips for travelling with chocolate
When you’re ready to travel with your favourite cacao creations in-hand, these are the tips that will help you (and your chocolate) get from A to B.
1. Pick the perfect chocolate
Dark chocolate with 70% or above cacao content is less likely to melt on your travels — it has a melting point of 32- 35 °c, as opposed to milk chocolate, which melts at 30 °c. Pack your favourite 85% Dark Chocolate Slab, and you’ll be less likely to find a gooey mass in your bag.
2. Pack wisely
Consider popping your chocolate into an insulated airtight pouch. Then, wrap your cacao nibbles in bubble wrap for extra insulation.
3. Freeze it first
This is controversial, as freezing or refrigerating chocolate can compromise the texture and taste. However, freezing your Batons, Slabs and Selectors for a few hours before packing will help them arrive in perfect shape. This small action should keep your delectable treat safe and secure when you travel.
What are the best chocolates to take on holiday?
If summer sun, sea, and sand leave you craving a fresh, fruity boost, our Selectors are a decadent way to dive into a zingy treat. Our Raspberry Smooth Chocolates are brimming with zesty tanginess, and are just the right size for a travel snack. Explore more summery treats in our Fruity Chocolate selection, where you’ll find citrus and berry tastes that will perk up jet-lagged taste buds.
Batons are another portable treat that is perfect for travel. Pack some Caramel Chocolate Batons to elevate an airport coffee, or slip an indulgent Mellow Baton Library into your carry-on for by-the-pool nibbles. If you’re popping to Paris on the Eurostar, you could even dive into our King’s Cross store for a complimentary taster and to stock up on some award-winning Salted Caramel Cream Selectors — the perfect size to stash in your handbag.
Our Chocolate Boxes are also easy to pack and make a fantastic travel snack or gorgeous gift when you’re staying with friends for a short break (if they last long enough, that is!). Or think ahead and post one of our Letterbox Chocolate Gifts to your destination — picture arriving at your idyllic holiday cottage to find your favourite Tipsy Truffles Sleekster waiting on the doormat for you to enjoy.
If you’re headed for colder climes or indulging in some apres-ski, don’t forget to pack some Hot Chocolate sachets. With the ultimate portable beverage in hand, you can whip up a delectable barista-worthy treat in minutes. Or try our iced Bannoffee Pie Hot Chocolate for the perfect summer cooler with a dessert-inspired twist.

How to look after your chocolate while you’re away
Imagine the worst-case scenario: You’re off on your travels, but your cacao-rich chocolate has to stay at home. Fortunately, your precious nibbles are in safe hands with our expert tips on how best to store your chocolate when the temperature soars.
Rather than leaving your treats in the fridge, choose a room or cupboard that always stays cool, even in the height of summer. For instance, a cellar with a temperature between 15 and 18 °c could be the ideal environment to keep your chocolate in prime condition.
Try to avoid extreme temperature fluctuations, as this can cause the fat in the chocolate to bloom, leaving a white layer. This is harmless but can affect the taste of your cacao.
Our Dark Chocolate is crafted to withstand warmer conditions and will tolerate heat much better than milk or white chocolate.
