Our mission is to make people and nature happy through chocolate, bringing joy to all through every chocolate experience. From our boxed selections to our drinking chocolates (and every nibble, sip and crunch in between), we strive to unite as many people as possible in our shared chocolate obsession – including those with hypersensitivity and allergies.

Now for the serious part. Our Allergen Management Policy is here to ensure all bases are covered when it comes to keeping things safe for you. Across our manufacturing, retail and café estate, we’re committed to reducing the risk of allergic reactions by carefully managing allergens in every step of our process. Your health, safety and happiness are always our priority.

We currently handle 7 of the 14 allergens regulated by food law within our chocolate crafting processes. We adopt a Precautionary Allergen Labelling (PAL) statement across our retail and café estate to make people aware of the 7 allergens handled and used, which is as follows:

Vegan-Friendly Products

In our bid to make people happy through chocolate, our vegan collection is

an expansion of just that – and a popular choice for plant-based diets.

However, vegan claims made on any of our products are not governed

under allergen controls. Whilst we believe our vegan products are

made with vegan ingredients, they are produced in an environment that

also handles non-vegan products, therefore we are unable to guarantee the

product is free from those items.

For prepacked vegan products, we kindly ask all cacao devotees to follow the allergen advice as stated on the product packaging.

Due to the use of shared equipment, our busy café environment and our manufacturing processes, all products may contain the following allergens: TREE NUTS, PEANUTS, MILK, GLUTEN, SESAME, SOYA & EGG.

Our Three Point Pledge

Ingredients

Training

Communication

We’re meticulous about maintaining robust allergen management processes. To that end, our Allergen Three Point Pledge focuses on:

As we create and expand our imaginative world of chocolate, our list of ingredients continues to grow. We take great care to ensure no ingredient used poses unnecessary allergen risk; assessing all raw material and ensuring allergen information is readily available.

As true cacao explorers, we are steadfast in our allegiance to only using ingredients of the highest quality (chocolatier’s honour).

Our customer-facing colleagues are fully trained on our allergen matrix and Precautionary Allergen Labelling statement, as well as how to deliver ingredient and allergen information.

Across our cafés, allergen management and control is paramount, in line with our hygiene procedures. Utensils and equipment are cleaned after crafting each drink to reduce the risk of cross-contamination between products. We also brief our team on what to do – and how to help – if someone is experiencing anaphylaxis.

At Hotel Chocolat we believe that the best way to communicate is when we are talking face-to-face with our customers. This is why we encourage all customers who have any questions around hypersensitivities and allergies to relay any allergen requirements verbally to our team who will be more than happy to provide you with all the information for you to make your informed choice as to if the food you have requested is safe for you to eat.
